The long weekend here in Canada is over and I’m back on track. Had a birthday barbeque, good times. Most of my time lately has been spent playing guitar, writing and getting back into playing the trumpet in a big way. In a week and a half I’m going to be playing in the horn section at Joel Plaskett’s (joelplaskett.com) big homecoming shows here in Halifax at the Rebecca Cohn. Two nights (May 28th and 30th). It’s going to be a great time. I’m having lots of fun getting back into playing everyday. Throughout junior high and high school I played all the time, so it’s cool to get back in the groove.
In other news, I’m heading to my alma mater, Mount Allison University, this weekend. I’m very pleased to report that I have been chosen as this year’s recipient of the Contemporary Community Award. Here’s what it says on the website: "This Award recognizes outstanding achievement by an alumnus/alumna within 10 years of graduation from Mount Allison". Wow. I’m really honoured. It’s a great school and I had an awesome time there. I’m looking forward to going back this weekend. Sackville, here I come.
Also, as I mentioned, my good friend Mat Dunlap took some wicked photos of the show at the Paragon just over a week ago. I’ll attach one below. What a blast.
Thanks for the visit.
This week’s Music Picks:
1) Crowe, Rice, Lawson, Hicks, Phillips – The Bluegrass Album (The track "Model Church" has the most deadly harmonies ever, you got to hear it.)
2) Little Richard – God Is Real
3) Curtis Mayfield – Curtis
That’s Alan Jeffries laying it down on the bass and Matt Myer playing a ripping trumpet solo, while I dance around like a freak
