CBC East Coast Now – Myles to go

February 3, 2012
...

Fresh off his whopping five nominations for East Coast Music Awards, NB native David Myles will be spending lots of time in the province, and in our hearts the next couple of weeks. Seems he wants to be our Valentine this month. First off, he’s on board for the second edition of the Shivering Songs festival in Fredericton this weekend. Myles will reprise his role as the host of the songwriters circle, happening Saturday afternoon at the fest. Actually, the correct title is Songwriters and Storytellers Matinee. That’s because this festival started a tradition last year of including writers, by bringing in Vancouver author Grant Lawrence. Now, the fest has a writer-in-residence, none other than N.B. hero David Adams Richards, who could chose pretty much anything, as he’s won Governor-General’s Awards for both fiction and non-fiction. He and Myles will be joined by Catherine MacLellan, Andrew Sisk of Fredericton band Share, and Mike O’Neill out of Halifax. It’s at 2 PM Saturday at Wilmot United Church.

Want a full Myles show? After tearing it up across Australia in January, he’s brought back some of those record hot summer temperatures, and will lay down some heat at Saint John’s Imperial Theatre. That show is Sunday, February 19th. Expect some of those Brazilian and African touches he brought to his recent Into The Sun album, plus his usual warmth and good humour onstage.

And then there’s the sentimental side of David Myles. Turns out he’s a bit of a lover boy: “Whether it be D’Angelo or Chet Baker, I’ve always loved a heavy dose of romance in my music,” he admits. “I also love Valentine’s Day. So I thought it’d be fun to record an acoustic version of a song that I get a lot of requests for and give it away in celebration of Valentine’s Day and the beauty of a good old fashioned romantic song.” The song is a number from his Turn Time Off disc, I Will Love You. What’s he doing is making it his Valentine’s gift to you and you and you. What a lothario, he’s hitting on everybody! During the week of February 13th the song will be available as a free dowload at his website, www.davidmyles.com as a special Valentine’s gift. Hey, he’s found a new way to hit on us.
