It’s been a beautiful few weeks out east. I’ve had some sweet down time and I’m feeling good. The summer was great. Thanks to all the festivals and show presenters that had me perform. The last month and a half has featured a sweet show in Welland, Ontario where I performed on a floating stage surrounded by fire. I was opening for Natalie MacMaster. Sweet gig indeed. Shortly after I went back to my hometown festival, the Harvest Jazz and Blues festival in Fredericton. Played a couple really fun shows there and got to see some great music as well. Derek Trucks and Susan Tedeshci were a real highlight. The next day I headed up to Bouctouche, NB to play a show in an old church with no power. It was a beauty. And it was the first time I did a show almost entirely in French! (with the exception of the songs of course, couldn’t translate quite quick enough.) That was cool too. Next up on the schedule was a weekend in Wolfville, Nova Scotia for the Deep Roots festival. This is a relatively new festival and it is awesome. Really well put together. Got to play a few great shows and caught up with some of my favourite musicians around like Matt Barber, Madison Violet, Meaghan Smith and Kim Dunn.
Since then I’ve just been working away on new stuff. Actually, pretty much all the time I’ve had between shows over the last few months has been spent in the studio strangely enough. I didn’t expect to be back in the swing of things so quickly but I’ve been feeling inspired and wanted to run with it. I’m really excited about it. I’ll keep you posted of course.
Tomorrow, I head out for a couple weeks on the road. Mostly university shows throughout southern Ontario but I am also playing a show in Montreal on October 23rd. I’m playing at a spot called Les Trois Minots on St-Laurent. It’s my first time playing in Montreal for a while so I’m really looking forward to it. I hope to see some of you out there. If not, and you’ve got friends in town, please let them know. There are also few other dates as well over the next couple weeks so please check out the tour page.
Thanks so much for the visit. I hope you’re all doing well. Here’s a photo of me and Al in Bouctouche a couple months back.
