I spent this past weekend in the homeland of New Brunswick. On Saturday I went back to Mount Allison University in Sackville to attend the Alumni dinner. It was great. I was awarded the Contemporary Community Award (see last post for details). It was a really nice time and thanks so much to the university for choosing me. It’s an honour. Yesterday I did an interview with Grant Lawrence on CBC radio 3. I think there’s a link somewhere on this page (www.radio3.cbc.ca) where you can listen to the interview and read his write up. Thanks Grant for rocking that. On Sunday, I hit up Moncton. While there I visited my Aunt Charlotte and got to check out the new Calton Guitar Case factory (www.caltoncases.com). It’s just recently moved to Moncton. Anyway, I did a little tour of the new digs and it was very cool. I’ll attach a photo of all the different guitar shapes that are used to make the moulds for the cases. Wild. In other news, I’m getting ready to rock the ol’ horn for the Joel Plaskett homecoming CD release shows at the Rebecca Cohn in Halifax this week. Good times.
Hope you’re all doing well.
Talk to you soon,
This week’s music picks:
1) Timber Timbre – Self Titled (Holy Smokes this record is awesome! Just discovered him. He’s from Toronto. Played in Halifax a couple weeks ago and I missed it! Drag. What a record.
2) Dan Auerbach – Keep It Hid (Solo record from the singer/guitar player from The Black Keys. Wicked sounding. I wish I played guitar and sang like this dude. I’m working on it.)
3) Ike Turner – His Woman, Her Man (Vol. 2) (Definitely a controversial guy but made some darn funky records. And Tina’s vocals are unreal. So intense. Plus to top it all off check out the cover art.
