Myles back in the malls with Singing For Supper tour

Black Friday has come and gone, Cyber Monday is will soon be a distant memory, but the malls are going to stay packed this week in New Brunswick. That’s because a special guest is making his way to the province, ready to share the holiday spirit. No, it’s not Santa, but he does laugh a lot. That’s because nothing makes David Myles happier than his annual Singing for Supper tour. For the fifth year in a row, Myles and his band (Kyle Cunjak, Alan Jeffries) will be playing the malls of Fredericton, Saint John and Dieppe, to raise money, groceries, and awareness for the province’s food banks.

In case you’ve never had the pleasure, Myles and Co. take over the central area of the mall in question at noon hour, and do a full, free show for the very big crowds. Your part is to make a donation, whether its cash or food. Last year, the Singing for Supper tour raised $7, 778.00 and 850 lbs. of food. That is, as they say, a lot of stuffing. Each year has seen the total go up, and there’s a big reason to believe this year will be the best one yet for donations.

Myles has become so fond of the campaign, it has spurred him on to record a full Christmas album. Released just last month, It’s Christmas features an eclectic mix of originals, classics and little-known cover versions. The band will be performing cuts from that album, and proceeds from its sale go to the food bank campaign as well. Plus, he’s taking the show on the road this year to other provinces, with dates in Nova Scotia, Quebec and Ontario, where a portion of sales will go to area food banks in those regions.

The New Brunswick dates begin Wednesday, at Fredericton’s Regent Mall. Thursday they travel to Brunswick Square in Saint John, and Friday it’s the Champlain Mall in Dieppe. All the shows run from 12 to 1:30 PM. Singing for Supper is supported by CBC and is made possible with the support of Delta Hotels, Sound Systems Plus, and Spincount Music & Promotions.
