World-leaning a cappella hums amid Paul Simon-esque inflections open the fifth album from East Coast folkster David Myles. Adopting Brazilian and African-influenced styles, the Halifax-based music-maker has a knack for fusing beats into copasetic sun-lit sounds. Songs such as Long Dark Night and the mellow balladry of Falling in Love lead into exotic meditations via the Rio-stamped groove Nina or lounge-tinged Ooh La La. A remix of Simple Pleasures, produced by Can-rapper Classified, closes the album with stammering, catchy pop. What shines here are Myles’ warm and subtle harmonies, so sunny in their disposition you can almost feel the glare in your eyes.
